I’ve had two sessions on the kite, here are my notes…
I rode a 12 in about 20 and a 9 in 22. I also rode a 7 in 26. All on a twin-tip. The wind was very gusty, but I was still able to get some good impressions.
The kite has plenty of power. I’d say comparable to a Switchblade. Actually, the Switchblade is the best kite to compare it to. It’s easy to fly, stable, smooth, and has that sit back and go type power we all love from the Switchblade.
In my opinion, it’s a better kite than the Switchblade, if we’re using that as a comparison. The Switchblade is a fantastic kite, but it really lacks in the waves and for foil. This is where the Reach will make up ground. It seems to have that ability to dump power quickly and easily, while still remaining in the sky. I think for the kiteboarder that’s looking to get a first kite and is considering going in the surf/foil direction, this is a fantastic option. I rode it just as I would with a surfboard, and it cycles very well, loops with the right amount of power, and remains stable no matter it’s position in the window.
It has a good bit of bar pressure, especially when powered up. If you’re looking for a really good jumping kite, I’d prefer the Orbit, which hangs longer in the sky and has more power in a top-loop.
I’m excited to try the 7 and 9 with a foil next.
